There is no half-day Chichén Itzá tour from Cancún. The 200 km each way makes it arithmetically impossible.
Two hours is the number on a group tour, and it breaks down predictably: roughly 60 to 75 minutes walking the main circuit with the guide, then 30 to 45 minutes of free time before the coach leaves. That is enough to see El Castillo, the Great Ball Court, the Temple of the Warriors and the Sacred Cenote, and to take the photographs you came for. It is not enough to walk out to the Ossuary or Chichén Viejo, or to sit anywhere for long.
If two hours sounds thin, there are exactly two ways to get more. The ADO bus puts you at the gate in the late morning and lets you take any later bus back, which usually works out at four or five hours on site for $28 each way.
